Credit: Tom PallantYungblud has been on a collaborating tear over the past year or so, working with artists including Machine Gun Kelly, Blink-182‘s Travis Barker, Imagine Dragons‘ Dan Reynolds, Halsey andMarshmello. Speaking with ABC Audio, the U.K. rocker — born Dominic Harrison — shares who he enjoys working with another artist.
“I always think two brains are better than one,” Harrison says.
“I love collaborating,” he explains. “I just love the whole process of it, ’cause I’ll make something that I wouldn’t have [made on my own], I’ll go down a road that I didn’t even know existed.”
Yungblud has developed an especially strong musical kinship with Machine Gun Kelly, with whom he recorded the joint single “I Think I’m OKAY.” The pair has also reunited — remotely, of course — for covers of Oasis‘ “Champagne Supernova” and Sublime‘s “What I Got” amid the COVID-19 quarantine.
The reason Yungblud and MGK work so well together is also quite simple: they’re “best mates.”
“We just love each other’s company and love making music together,” Harrison says. “It’s one of our favorite things to do ever.”
Yungblud recently dropped his new single, “Weird!”, and has been working on his sophomore album, the follow-up to 2018’s 21st Century Liability. However, you won’t find any collaborations on the upcoming record.
“I want to keep this album pretty straight,” Harrison says. “I collaborated a lot last year, and I love collaborating, but I wanted this album to be, like, me.”
