Danny E. Martindale/Getty ImagesMarilyn Manson is a huge Brandi Carlile fan, and he’s been itching to duet with the alt-country artist on the Wizard of Oz classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Brandi tells Zane Lowe in a new interview on his Apple Music program that the Antichrist Superstar has even texted her about it.
“Do that!” begged Lowe, to which Carlile responded, “Okay, I will.”
Carlile went on to explain that Manson caught her performance of Joni Mitchell’s Blue album in Los Angeles and “cried so hard he had makeup down his face.”
“[It] turns out he’s the biggest Joni Mitchell fan on face of the planet,” remarked Brandi.
The original version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was sung by Judy Garland in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. A big Garland fan, Brandi says everything about the movie legend, “just makes me smile.”
“Just to me, she’s everything gay. Just everything,” she continues. “When I listen to ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, I feel happy, but I don’t feel happy in contrast or contrary to the way I’m naturally feeling. I just feel like I can maybe have a daydream.”
The entire interview is now available at Apple Music.
