The track has flown to the top of Billboard‘s Alternative Songs ranking, giving Brandon Flowers and company their first leader on the tally since “When We Were Young” hit number one back in 2006.
That means thirteen years and six months elapsed between the rise of “When We Were Young” and the ascension of “Caution.” And that time span now sets the record for the longest gap between number-ones on Alternative Songs in the chart’s more than 30-year history.
The previous record belonged to Beck, whose 2017 number-one Alternative Songs hit “Up All Night” conquered the chart 12 years, eight months and two weeks after his previous leader, 2005’s “E-Pro.”
“Caution,” meanwhile, reached the top Alternative Songs spot in just six weeks, which is the fastest trip to number-one on the chart since Cage the Elephant‘s 2019 single “Ready to Let Go” also did it in six weeks.
“Caution” is the lead single from the upcoming new Killers album Imploding the Mirage, due out May 29.
