Matt Jelonek/Wire ImagePlayboi Carti woke up on the top of the Billboard chart on Sunday thanks to his new album Whole Lotta Red.
The album is the “Magnolia” rapper’s second studio effort, but his first ever to top the prestigious chart — and is also the official first number one album of the new year.
Whole Lotta Red, which was released on Christmas, was streamed a whopping 126.4 million times in its first week of release and moved 100,000 album units, reports Billboard.
Carti reacted to the news on Sunday, tweeting his appreciation to fans by writing, “!!!!! wTF . wE r # 1 > mY fANs . >”
The studio effort, which includes 24 tracks and also features vocal cameos from Kanye West and Future, was first announced in 2018. West also executive produced the album.
The 24-year-old also dethroned the previous chart-topper, Taylor Swift, who claimed the top spot for the past two weeks thanks to her recent album Evermore.
Carti’s debut album, 2018’s Die Lit, peaked at No. 3 on the chart.
