“I don’t respect the Pusha T verse on the song with Gunna and me cause I don’t have [nothing] to do with y’all beef nor does Gunna, and if I knew that was about him I would’ve made changes on our behalf,” Thugger wrote in his Instagram story, as captured by The Shade Room.
On Tuesday, Pusha T responded telling Thugger, “Don’t feel bad. Nobody knew what the verse was about, including label heads who stopped the song’s release. He said, “they only assume” because Drake told them.
On the track titled, “Paranoia,” Pusha aims at Drake’s patois language while mentioning a 2018 incident, in which he believes Drake paid people to rush the stage during his tour stop in Toronto. He raps, “Those empty threats only sound good on your records / If the patois is not followed by blocka / It’s like marked for death Screwface, without the choppa / Let ’em rush the stage when you made like Sinatra.”
Pusha explained a similar happening after his verse on Rick Ross’ “Maybach Music VI” was scrapped for dissing Drake on a track that also featured John Legend and Young Money CEO, Lil Wayne.
Ultimately, Pusha ended up demanding Pop’s manager Steve Victor take him off the song, which would have appeared on the deluxe version of Pop Smoke’s album Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon later this month.
