Dej Jam RecordingsDave East returns with a music video for his new anthem, “Child of the Ghetto.”
The tracks flips G.Dep‘s 2001 single of the same name and finds the Harlem rapper addressing the naysayers who claim he’s a changed man.
“A Child of the Ghetto nobody explained it to me/ I never fold I never bend, that’s the gangsta in me/ another daughter in my life I’m so thankful to see / “[They] love to say I changed, when they changed up on me,” East raps.
The video takes us back to the 90’s with recreated scenes from the cult classic film Juice, which starred Tupac and Omar Epps. East takes on Tupac’s character, Bishop, while his crews takes on the role of Bishop’s friends Q, Steel and Raheem, the latter role played by Khalil Kain, who also makes a cameo in the video. Other scenes include rap legend, AZ from hip-hop supergroup The Firm.
Dave East ended 2020 on a great note after releasing the third installment to his Karma mixtape series in August, followed by a deluxe version in October. Last November, East welcomed his second daughter, Kobi Chanai, with his girlfriend Milagrito Colon. The couple’s first daughter, Kairi Chanel, turns five on March 19th.
