Hayley ScottAfter documenting his battle with mental health on his latest album, PTSD, G-Herbo collaborated with Audiomack to lend that same support to struggling Black teens with his Mental Health Notes Panel.
On Wednesday, Billboard reported the Chicago rapper will be joined by Wale, NLE Choppa, and Saweetie to help struggling youth develop better ways to deal with “the ups and downs of mental health.”
Hosted by Dr. Jessica Clemons MD, the forum will offer various techniques to cope with “everyday battles, while de-stigmatizing the importance [of] therapy in the African American community.
“I wanted to gather everyone to encourage open dialogue so that we not only become a support system for one another but our fans as well,” Herbo tells Billboard. “People are hurting. They need to know we understand and are here to offer our resources. Whether we accept being role models or not, we have the influence to help heal.”
The Audiomack collaboration allowed Saweetie to “Tap In” to more meaningful conversations about mental health in minority communities.
“We need to talk about and work through hard issues that affect our mental,” Saweetie added. “Otherwise, the very thing that makes us human will turn us into cold robots.”
The panel airs today, at 6 p.m. ET on Twitch, as part of G-Herbo’s mental health initiative Swervin’ Through Stress, which offers 12 weeks of therapy sessions for African Americans between the ages of 18 and 25.
