Def Jam RecordingsFollowing “FTP,” YG makes yet another political statement with his new single, “Swag.”
Sporting a red hairdo, YG brags about his “swag” in front of his red-topped Maybach while dressed in black.
The Compton rapper faced a bit of criticism on social media after he posted the single’s cover art, which features himself as former NFL star and activist Colin Kapernick with two cheerleaders behind him. YG is pictured wearing Kap’s old 49ers jersey and an afro wig while kneeling, a nod to Kap’s protest against racism and police brutality during the national anthem at NFL games.
The song and video is a homage to Black excellence and 90’s culture with mentions of basketball star Scottie Pippen, Chicago Bulls-colored jerseys, airbrushed jeans and more. Uncle Snoop Dogg and fellow West Coast rapper Tyga made an appearance during the video with their natural ‘fros, alongside a few dancers.
In other news, it looks like we won’t be getting another YG and Nicki Minaj collab. The Shade Room captured an interview in which YG said he won’t be working with the Barb after her collab with Tekashi 6ixNine.
YG and Nicki previously collaborated on his 2018 chart-topping single, “Big Bank,” featuring 2 Chainz and Big Sean.
