Andrew Chin/Getty ImagesLana Del Rey has shared a new video continuing to defend her controversial Instagram post from last week. Oh, she also revealed the name of her new album.
For the uninitiated, this saga began when Del Rey shared a post asking why Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Kehlani, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé charted hit singles with “songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f***ing [and] cheating,” while she felt she was being criticized for “glamorizing abuse.” Buried in the post was the announcement that she’d be releasing a new album on September 5.
Her comments quickly went viral, with many people on social media calling her out for naming primarily women of color to illustrate how she was allegedly being victimized.
After sharing a number of comments attempting to clarify what she wrote, Del Rey has shared a black-and-white video reiterating her original intention.
“I don’t wanna beat a dead horse…but I just wanna remind you that in that post…was about the need for fragility in the feminist movement,” she said. “It’s gonna be important.”
She added that with her initial comments about there needing to be a “place in feminism for women who look and act like me,” she didn’t mean to suggest “white women like me.”
“I meant the kind of women who other people might not believe because they think, ‘Oh, look at her, she f***in’ deserves it,’ or whatever,” she said.
Speaking about how she feels she’s compared to other artists, Del Rey said, “The difference is when I get on the pole people call me a w****, but when [FKA] twigs gets on the pole it’s art.”
At the end of the video, Del Rey revealed her upcoming album is called Chemtrails Over the Country Club.
