The upcoming record, the third studio effort from the U.K. group, is the follow-up to 2016’s How to Be a Human Being, which spawned the singles “Life Itself” and “Pork Soda.” It’s also the band’s first album since drummer Joe Seward recovered from a life-threatening bike accident he suffered in 2018.
“The idea for this album came at a time of confusion and uncertainty,” says frontman Dave Bayley. “My best friend was in the hospital. I didn’t know if he’d make it. The future was damn scary and completely unknown.”
“During those weeks in the hospital, it was so difficult to look forwards that I found myself looking backwards,” he explains. “Digging around in my mind, pulling up old memories, finding comfort in them even if they were uncomfortable in themselves.”
Dreamland includes the previously released single “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” and the Denzel Curry collaboration “Tokyo Drifting.” You can also download the just-dropped title track now via digital outlets.
Naturally, Glass Animals has a lot of big plans surrounding the album, but those have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I spent weeks devastated that our big plans to bring this album to you in real life on a stage were shattered,” Bayley says. “But, somehow, in all the uncertainty and before all the unknowns, right now seems like the most insane, but also the most apt time to reveal this record.”
He adds, “Growing up is a strange time, the hospital was a strange time and here we are in a strange time again.”
