John Shearer/Getty ImagesThat last thing Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott needs to do is prove herself, but with each new project, she continues to show herself as nothing less than an icon to the music industry.
The five-time Grammy-Award winner premiered the official visuals for her record “Cool Off” and it oozes of her classic style. In the video, which is both a continuation and the end to a storyline from her previously-released “Why I Still Love You,” Missy presents herself as more than just an artist but as the art as well.
Presented as a statue in a museum, the 48-year-old rapper and those surrounding her appear as copper-colored statues in one scene only to light up the night with some energetic dancers fitted in neon from head to toe — choreographed twerking and stilts included.
Just as the song is coming to a close, fans are treated to a cameo by the multi-talented Teyana Taylor.
“I done sat here and talked about the greatest, the most timeless woman of all time,” the singer-songwriter tells a young girl in the video before sending her on her way. “I want you to go out there and I want you to go get it. Go follow your dreams.”
The video ends with what seemed to be a nod and a passing of the baton from Alyson Stoner, a dancer who often appeared in Missy’s music videos when she was younger. Appearing in an all-red Adidas tracksuit, the young girl shows off her impressive dance moves for the camera.
Cue the credits.
